Dr. Ike Ahmed obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Toronto as well as a fellowship in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at the University of Utah’s John A. Moran Eye Center.

In addition to his duties as a surgeon and co-medical director at TLC Laser Eye Centres’ Oakville location, Dr. Ahmed also sees patients at Prism Eye Institute as well as Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. Due to his extensive expertise in multiple areas of ophthalmology, Dr. Ahmed is regularly asked to consult for a variety of industry manufacturers and aids in the development of new platforms, devices, and technology. As a tenured professor, he also is devoted to training residents and fellows as well as teaching colleagues internationally.

Dr. Ahmed has been the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the prestigious Ophthalmologist Power List Awards, which ranks the top 100 ophthalmologists worldwide. He earned the top spot in 2024, a remarkable achievement following his #2 ranking in 2022, showcasing his continued excellence and influence in the field. 

In an interview for his Power List Profile, Dr. Ahmed shared his bold predictions for the field of ophthalmology: “In glaucoma, we will move into an intervention approach where procedural elements form the basis of therapy, and traditional eye drops become bridges to more definitive management.” 

Additionally, Dr. Ahmed received the 2018 Clinical Innovator Award and the 2014 Binkhorst Medal from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, one of the most renowned awards in ophthalmology given for outstanding contributions to the understanding of the practice of cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantations. 

Dr. Ahmed actively contributes to ophthalmological research. He’s published over 200 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Ophthalmology, the British Journal of Ophthalmology, the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He’s also given over 1,500 presentations on his research around the world.
