Learn more about Dr. Lekhi

Dr. Lekhi earned his Bachelor of Science in Organic Chemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology at Simon Fraser University in 2006 and a Master of Biomedical Technology at the University of Calgary in 2007.

After a break to run a biotechnology company and serve as an adjunct professor at Calgary, he finished his Doctor of Medicine and MBA in 2011 and completed his ophthalmology residency at Calgary in 2017. He has since trained in refractive surgery, oculoplastics, and cosmetics with leading surgeons in each field.

Dr. Lekhi has performed more than 40,000 eye surgeries. His practice covers cataract and vision correction surgery, complex lens and trauma surgery, and oculoplastics, including cosmetic and functional eyelid procedures, eyelid cancer treatment, and reconstruction.

His vision correction options include LASIK, PRK, implantable Collamer® lens (ICL) surgery, and refractive lens exchange. He has also developed his own ICL implantation technique, designed to streamline the procedure while keeping it precise and safe.

Other surgeons refer him their toughest cases, including patients whose earlier surgery didn’t go as hoped. His complex anterior segment work includes suturing lens implants in place and repairing trauma damage. For second opinions, he looks for the underlying problem and explains realistic options before recommending anything.

As a student, Dr. Lekhi received the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, the Joseph Albert Award for Elective Study at Centres of Excellence, the Lydia Sikora Medical Research Award, and a Millennium Graduate Bursary.

Today he is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary, where he teaches and mentors ophthalmology residents. He remains active in research and publishing and regularly presents at meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. He also consults with governments and biomedical companies on healthcare delivery and surgical technology.
