Dr. Demong completed a Bachelor of Science degree prior to receiving his medical degree, both at the University of Alberta. He later finished a residence in ophthalmology at UofA, and has also completed a fellowship in cornea/external disease at the University of Florida.
Dr. Demong is a fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist. With over 30 years of experience, he’s helped transform the lives of thousands of patients. As one of the leading refractive surgeons in Canada, Dr. Demong has been consulted on some of the most complex cases, making him an excellent asset to TLC’s team of LASIK experts.
Having worked as a lecturer at the University of Calgary Medical School, Dr. Demong has had the opportunity to speak to audiences across the world about corneal care and refractive surgery. He’s specifically passionate about educating and advocating for informed consent as well as high standards of patient care and safety.
Dr. Demong is very active in his community. He was previously the president of the Alberta Ophthalmology Society. He also helped establish standards for vision correction procedures in Alberta by acting as an advisor for the Alberta College of Physicians & Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Demong has worked extensively with Canadian Vision Care Program, which provides eye examinations and corrective eyewear in developing countries.
Dr. Demong also helped spearhead the founding of a Lion’s Eye Bank in Southern Alberta, which helps store and prepare donated cornea tissue for life-saving transplantations. Dr. Demong was recognized as a Melvin Jones fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation for his activism.
