Dr. Gutiérrez finished both his undergraduate degree and medical degree at the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (University of Medical Sciences) in San José, Costa Rica. He went on to finish a residency in ophthalmology followed by a master’s degree in healthcare management, both at the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas. Currently, Dr. Gutiérrez is completing a fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Gutiérrez has completed thousands of ocular procedures. He has extensive experience performing LASIK, PRK, and ICL procedures as well as cataract surgery.
He was previously the head ophthalmologist at Hospital de Ciudad Neily in Corredor District, Costa Rica as well a staff ophthalmologist at Universidad de Costa Rica’s Clinica Oftalmólogica. Additionally, Dr. Gutiérrez was a faculty member during his time at the university, through which he helped train and supervise ophthalmological students.
Dr. Gutiérrez is an accomplished researcher, having graduated with honours following his residency in ophthalmology and his master’s degree.
His work has been featured in a number of publications, including the book Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSCR): Risk Factors, Diagnosis and Management as well as academic journals, like Revista Médica de Costa Rica y Centroamérica.
