Educational background

Dr. Guillermo Rocha obtained his medical degree at the Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City, and then went on to complete a research fellowship in microvascular surgery in Mexico City and Houston, Texas. Dr. Rocha then completed his residency in ophthalmology at McGill University, where he also underwent subspecialty training in ocular immunology and inflammation. He then received additional training in corneal and external diseases at the University of South Florida, in Tampa.

 

Refractive experience

Dr. Rocha is the medical director at the Ocular Microsurgery & Laser Centre in Brandon, Manitoba. He is also on-staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, the Misericordia Health Centre, and the Minnedosa Health Centre. He regularly performs cataract and glaucoma surgery, as well as anterior segment and corneal procedures, such as LASIK and PRK.

Additionally, Dr. Rocha holds a teaching position in ophthalmology at the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.

 

Accomplishments and awards

Dr. Rocha was awarded a Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation and Medical Research Council of Canada resident research award in 1995 for his work on causative factors of ocular inflammation. In 2001, he received two Best Paper of Session awards at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting in San Diego, California. He was also the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba’s iCare Award in 2014

On the literary front, Dr. Rocha is a former associate and cornea section editor for the journal Techniques in Ophthalmology and co-editor of four books: Advanced Technology IOLs in Cataract Surgery: Pearls for Success, Bringing You The Future in Ophthalmology, Advances in Refractive and Corneal Surgery, and Surgical Correction of Astigmatism.
